CPEC expanding to new sectors, says Chinese VP

ISLAMABAD: Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan opened his three-day visit to Islamabad on Sunday by recalling the strength of the bilateral relationship and expressing the resolve that Pakistan and China would continue to safeguard each other’s interests.

On the first day of the trip, VP Wang inaugurated a number of projects along with Prime Minister Imran Khan and the two leaders witnessed signing of several agreements.

Soon after his arrival at Chaklala airbase, VP Wang spoke at a meeting of “Friends of Silk Road” hosted by the Pakistan-China Institute.

Wang Qishan receives warm welcome in Lahore

LAHORE - Vice President of People’s Republic of China Wang Qishan was accorded a warm welcome as he arrived in the provincial metropolis on a two-day official visit.

Australian businessman keen to invest in Pakistan: HC

ISLAMABAD : Australian High Commissioner Margaret Adamson on Monday said Australian businessman and trade firms are keen to invest in Pakistan keeping in view the investment friendly environment.

While meeting National Assembly deputy speaker, she said that Australia attached great importance to its relations with Pakistan and wanted to further strengthening the existing relations trough enhanced parliamentary and economic cooperation.

Govt to ensure provision of electricity to SEZs

PM’s adviser says incumbent regime aims to facilitate industrial relocation from China
ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to start the electrification process at the special economic zones (SEZ). The first SEZ that would get immediate relief in this regard would be the Bin Qasim Industrial Parks in Karachi.

This was decided in a meeting co-chaired by Adviser to Prime Minister on Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood and Power Minister Omar Ayub Khan on Thursday.

The meeting was held to discuss issues pertaining to the provision of electricity and gas to the SEZs.

Govt to encourage private sector to boost exports: Secretary Commerce

ISLAMABAD (APP) – Secretary Commerce Sardar Ahmed Nawaz Sukhera said the government was fully committed to catalyzing private sector to contribute towards strengthening the national economy and boosting the country’s exports.

He expressed these views while talking to Pakistan Furniture Council (PFC) Chief Executive Mian Kashif Ashfaq who is also Chairman of Faisalabad Industrial Estate Development and Management Company (FIEDMC) here, said a press release.

Over 2,000 apply for Pakistan visa online

ISLAMABAD: Around 2,250 individuals from across the globe have so far applied online to obtain Pakistan’s visa, according to data released by the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) on Tuesday.

Nadra, which developed the online system of issuing visas to potential travellers to Pakistan, said that 739 applications had been received during a single week starting from May 6.

PM approves Kamyab Jawan Programme

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan Thursday formally approved the ‘Prime Minister Kamyab Jawan Programme’ to give practical shape to the government vision of youth empowerment, well-being and welfare.

To this effect, the prime minister was given a briefing on the diversified initiative-laden programme by his Special Assistant Usman Dar here at the Prime Minister Office. He was also apprised of various measures being taken to propel the youth.

Cement exports up 31pc in 10 months

ISLAMABAD - The exports of cement from the country witnessed an increase of 30.89 percent during the first ten months of ongoing fiscal year against the exports of the corresponding period of last year.

The cement exports from the country were recorded at $ 243.118 million during July-April (2018-19) against the exports of $ 185.741 million during July-April (2017-18), showing positive growth of 30.89 percent, according to the latest data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

Pak, Bulgaria agree to work together for promotion of bilateral trade

Pakistan and Bulgaria have agreed to work together for promotion of bilateral trade and investment.

The agreement was reached at the two-day second session of Pakistan-Bulgaria Inter-Governmental Commission, which concluded in Islamabad on Tuesday.

Secretary Economic Affairs Division Noor Ahmed led the Pakistani side while Bulgaria's Deputy Minister of Economy Liliya Ivanova headed her country's delegation.
